Bank Holiday Blogging Bonanza (aka We Got Eggs But No Bread Soldiers)

Well, you know how it is, you go away for the weekend, and some celebrity pegs it in your absence - this time, the shock news that singer Laura Branigan has died of a brain aneuryism aged 47. Back in the '80s we admired her 'Self Control'.

Meanwhile, this morning it's been announced that Sir Bobby Robson has been sacked by Newcastle, the second Premiership gaffer to be dismissed this term and we're only four games into the season. I don't think the Toon Army are gonna win a tinpot while Freddie Shepherd, Alan Shearer and Keiron Dyer are still at the club. Keep checking over at Black And White And Read All Over for a more detailed reaction (and, no doubt, a different conclusion).

Creepy Lesbo has been having a fraught time of it just lately, including being spat at in the street, so we thought we'd look around for some reasons for Creepy to be cheerful: 1, 2, 3...

1) Even 80s rock legends like Bob Mould are using their blogspace to moan about rising local crime rates.

2) Girl With A One Track Mind (not safe for work) is even more sexually frustrated than she is.

and 3) AfterEllen.com argues Best. Week. For. Lesbians. Ever. Reasons include the BBC's plans to film a series based on Sarah Water's bestseller 'Fingersmith'; Aussie soap Neighbours and US Survivor to introduce their first openly lesbian characters, and Kelly Lynch outing the cast of The L Word as '50% gay'. This series gets its UK premiere on Wednesday night on the satellite/cable channel Living. Apparently, during filming of the series opener, 'Katherine Moennig, Leisha Hailey, and Erin Daniels gave (Karina) Lombard a good-luck bottle of wine before her first sex scene with Mia Kirshner' (there's no mention, though, as to whether any lubrication used).

Couple of film trailers for you Closer stars Jude Law, Julia Roberts, Clive Owen and Natalie Portman as a stripper, so whatever else, it's going to look good and the new film from Lukas Moodysson is due out next month (his previous films include 'Together' and 'Lilya-4-Ever').

Some sad news: following on from the LinkDump Truck deserting PV for Hare Krishna Kerry So Says I is quitting blogging in favour of travelling and an unpronouncable religion. And we were only just getting to know her, as well (whaddayamean, there's probably no co-incidence?!)

The more I look at these vaguely NSFW pics of Hilary Swank the more I think she really deserved her Oscar for impersonating a bloke in Boys Don't Cry.

And, can I be the last blogger to point you in the direction of the Booker longlist. Unlike last year, I haven't read any of the titles concerned, but have heard good things about David Mitchell's 'Cloud Atlas'. Nevertheless, I expect Alan Hollinghurt's gay-tories-in-the-80s saga 'The Line Of Beauty' to win and it looks good value at 10-1 if you can get it.

Finally, GreenCine Daily is a fantastic film blog oozing with delicious linky goodness. Bookmark it or risk perishing from moviegoing malnourishment.
