Sad news in tonight that veteran actor Richard Harris has died after a two-month battle with cancer.

In a long, varied and indeed erratic career, his standout role for me was as the troubled, violent rugby league star Neil Machin in Lindsay Anderson's superior sports drama This Sporting Life (1963).
