Conspiracy theorists take note - Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone has been killed in a plane crash earlier today. His wife and daughter were amongst others on board (there were no survivors). Democrat Wellstone was considered as one of the most liberal in the Senate, a vociferous opponent of oil excavation in Alaska and the proposed war on Iraq, and was in the process of contesting a key election. Toss in reports that Ted Kennedy was due to be on board but changed plans at the last minute, and you have a recipe for a story that could run and run.
