Tenor gives good valueIt's Jazz, Jimi, But Not As We Know It

Popped down to London at the weekend to see Jimi Tenor at the Jazz Cafe in Camden. Apologies to those that I didn't get round to seeing but, forthcoming war atrocities notwithstanding, I should be revisiting the capital again real soon.

I was quite impressed with the Jazz Cafe as a venue as the bar ran right up the one side of the stage meaning it was possible to secure a prime position within easy reaching distance of both, which is always a bonus. Mind, for the very same reason you may wish to refer to this Guardian review for a more sober, reflective account of proceedings.

Tenor's set was dominated by stuff from his latest CD Higher Planes which is an album that is growing on me with each listen. Elements of jazz, funk, big band and 70s cop show theme tunes are blended to produce an unusual and distinctive hybrid that certainly seemed to win the hearts and feet of an enthusiastic crowd. All in all, it was a hugely entertaining show.
