Multiplyin' Chills

Test Icicles fall victim to the cold snap. Bought a single of theirs last year on someone's recommendation, considered it unlistenable rubbish and never played it again. They've clearly taken the hint. The world's a better place for them splitting up and Marion reforming.

The splintering effect continues with the news that guitarist Lee Irons has left The Departure. Dead Kenny doesn't care what anyone else says, 'Dirty Words' was one of last year's cruelly neglected albums.

In a more welcome development Denys Arcand's Love And Human Remains makes its overdue debut on R2 DVD.

Would you dare take a lost weekend with David Lynch?

Have no idea what this record sounds like, but am broadly in favour of anyone by the name of Nathan Fake. Best name since Detective Inspector Jim Seventies.

For those of you that like to gaze at sportstars frowning and generally looking uncomfortable here's Maria Sharapova's swimsuit gallery from Sports Illustrated (borderline work safety).

Of local interest Kate Rusby to play Shrewsbury Music Hall on June 30 2006.

And so to bed, or should we say The Upper Room who were only supposed to blow the bloody roof off but actually manage to bring the whole house down with the timeless melody of 'All Over This Town'. It sounds like Doves with the dourness taken out, or The House Of Love full of the joys of spring, and thus it is Parallax View Single Of The Week (available in shops from today).

What is a Parallax View? Not the book/movie - but the concept?

Also - do you have an RSS feed?

Dictionary.com gives the definition of parallax as an apparent change in the direction of an object, caused by a change in observational position that provides a new line of sight.

Thus loosely a parallax 'view' could be considered as a subject seen in a slightly changed light with the benefit of a different perspective from the norm. Which is a mighty aim for a humble weblog but here and there it works.

Can't say Dead Kenny gave the title *that* much thought when he started this farrago over 5 years ago as a way of learning how to put a website together.

I liked Arms Around Me best from that album. That did bad things to me.

I thought Marion's second album was pish, compared with their storming debut - hope they've got something great up their sleeves...
