Gown And Out In London Town
On this week's Parallax View University Challenge, here's your starter for ten: which feisty pop strumpet is pictured on the left picking up her law degree from Kings College in London? We do like a girl who can handle her own briefs, and the answer is of course, Liela Moss, lead singer with The Duke Spirit. The picture comes courtesy of a reader who had perhaps best be kept anonymous, who comments: 'er, yes it was either running a Department or rock chick stardom...the jury is still out'. Well, the record-buying public will be the judge of that, as new single The Dark Is Light Enough hits the shops on Bank Holiday Monday (31st). It's not as immediate as the best tracks from their 'roll, Spirit, roll' ep, but it is a grower and worth investigating. Readers in London may also want to check them out live at a last-minute show at the Buffalo Bar in Highbury this Friday (May 28th).
Meanwhile...Parallax View proofreader Vicky advises me it was on Top Of The Pops and not Later With Jools Holland, that Morrissey uttered the word 'yowsa!' to a bemused (and indeed, befuddled) audience. But then, anyone who can keep track of Moz's promiscuous media-whoring just lately is a better hack than me, I'm afraid.
Everyone's favourite mad genius film director David Lynch has been busy baffling people again. Our Danish correspondent John Fogde was on the case (and took his camera as well).
Update on yesterday's post about Jed Mercurio's TV adaptation of his book 'Bodies': here's the official site which carries details of the repeat broadcasts, as well as biographies of the (pretty hot) cast.
Valeria Golino, the respected Italian actress who is nevertheless still best known for being the girl with the fantastic arse in Rain Man, has exposed a breast on live TV (link NOT SAFE FOR WORK if your boss has 20:20 vision).
In other hot news just in, Andy Kaufman is still dead.
Bony Breakfast Clubber Ally Sheedy is playing a lesbian again in cable-TV movie 'Shelter Island'. Apparently she has a scene where she's weightlifting naked, which is no way to talk about her co-star and screen lover Patsy Kensit...
Today's recommended new blog is Supervixxen which features pop and metal mp3s, including tracks such as 'Dry Your Eyes' from the new Streets LP (of which, a review soon, I promise). (via fluxblog)
And finally, in the run-in to arguably West Ham's biggest game in over 20 years, rookie keeper Stephen Bywater has been talking to The Sunday Times. Bywater states he was glad to see the back of his predecessor David James, that he's 'the best keeper around, bar none' and that The Hammers will 'definitely win' Saturday's play-off game against Iain Dowie's in-form Crystal Palace. Cocky blighter, ain't he? But at 6ft 5in, I'm not arguing with him...
