Watched Larry Clark's
Teenage Caveman (2001) on pay-per-view the other night, it's a made-for-cable TV effort which bears little relation to the 1958 Roger Corman b-movie with which it shares its name. The film's semi-improvisational tone and lingering nude scenes are trademark Clark, but it lacks the acute social observation and narrative drive that made
Kids and
Bully such compelling movies.
What's left feels like a self-indulgent mess, probably more fun to film than to actually watch, and enlivened only by a couple of soft-porn set-pieces involving communal nudity. Although when those involved include Clark's real-life partner
Tiffany Limos and pert blonde starlet
Tara Subkoff (left) I guess I shouldn't be complaining
too much.
