Notes from a Third World Country

Of course, it is the nature of a schizophrenic to find patterns and symmetries in unrelated events. However, am I the only one to find some awkward symbolism in the fact that on the eve of the British rail network's biggest meltdown yet (a massive repair programme being planned over the August Bank Holiday), The Bank Of England have announced today that the 'old-style' fiver, featuring railway founder George Stephenson, is to cease being legal tender?
