Earlier this week I went to view the On Kawara exhibition at the Ikon Gallery. Perhaps the most interesting part of the exhibition for me was the collection 150 or so telegrams he'd send to various people across the world with the bald statement 'I Am Still Alive'. On the whole though, I found the material a little too thin and unengaging for a solo exhibition of this kind.

Maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind to reflect on the nature of mortality and consciousness but after seeing so many of Kawara's 'date paintings' (near identical pictures representing each year since 1966) I was certainly starting to lose the will to live.
