Celtic midfielder and Northern Ireland skipper Neil Lennon has announced his retirement from international football having received death threats prior to last night's game against Cyprus, claiming to be from a paramilitary group (who have since denied involvement, citing the absence of a key codeword). Ulster Unionist MP Jeffrey Donaldson states "The individual who issued this death threat speaks for no-one."

The game, reduced to a sad postcript by this shabby sectarianist squabbling, ended 0-0.
