Medium Cool

This week's Single Of The Week goes to Northampton four-piece Medium 21 for Daybreak vs. Pride on Simon Williams' Temptation Records.

Regular readers with memories as sharp as their dress sense will remember me enthusing about the band when I caught their support slot on the Brendan Benson tour last autumn. Daybreak vs. Pride is their best record to date, spluttering with nervous energy as jittery vocals collide with stabbing guitars to memorable, tuneful effect. The two supporting tracks are mellower but no less evocative.

I suspect Medium 21 are a rare enough talent to be here for the long run, but that's no excuse not to get into them now. Their debut album follows on March 10.
