Las Catch Up

Ugh. I think my stomach is telling me I over-indulged yesterday: it's one unhappy bunny. Nevertheless, in the absence of any proper blogging on this 'ere page for over a week, here's a digest of some of the more interesting things to have arisen over that period.

Pitchfork's Top 50 Albums Of 2002 is an interesting selection, some wilfully obscure choices in places, but an impressive Top 10.

'Aaliyah's Ghost: R Kelly Rigged My Death' - 'tis the season for ghost stories, but this is ridiculous.

Slipknot to split but only after they record next album.

Former film censor James Ferman has died. He was controversial but any guy responsible for passing Crash and The Idiots uncut was alright by me.

Pop Candy's Top 100 People Of The Year. Includes two bloggers. Good grief.

I'm always dubious of stories about international stars that originate from The Daily Star but this week's big J-Lo scoop has it that she's called off her Valentine's Day wedding to Ben Affleck citing Matt Damon as the troublesome third party. This is just too good a story to be true, right?

Soccer hardman puts squeeze on Ketchup Dance. Diego Simeone has criticised team-mates for their less-than-manly goal celebrations. I'd take your machismo a little more seriously Simone love, were it not for the fact I remember you squealing like a girl when England's future skipper tapped you with his foot in the 1998 World Cup...

[music] 2002: Best Year Ever? by Tom Ewing. Entertainly written as ever, but I'm not sure I concur with the conclusions. It was a great year for singles, an interesting time in terms of the number of emerging new bands, but there was a distinct shortage of genuinely great albums.
