Ox felled

As a youngster steadily gaining an interest in music in the seventies, I was always more into The Who than The Beatles or The Stones. They had an energy and an arrogance to go with a great selection of tunes that to my ears still sounded fresh and contemporary.

So I was particularly saddened to hear this morning's news on the radio that the band's bassist John Entwistle had died suddenly in Las Vegas. He was 57.
