Speaking of Radio 1 it's worth pointing out that today marks the launch of their onemusic website and campaign, which aims to be a valuable resource for people wishing to make it in the music biz. Each week, selected demos from unsigned bands will be uploaded onto the site and will also get an airing on the radio station. There's also tips and advice from the likes of Ms. Dynamite, Hundred Reasons, Basement Jaxx and boyband Blue on the secrets of their success and how to avoid the many potential pitfalls.

It's easy to be cynical about these sort of projects but given the recent gnashing and wailing about the lack of British artists making a breakthrough in the US market, it's encouraging to see the radio station (often cited as being one of the main problems in the music biz re. its apparent unadventurous programming and playlisting) making a timely contribution to unearthing and fostering new talent.
